    Kellwood, founded in 1961, designs, manufactures, and markets a growing collection of fashion brands across a broad range of clothing categories to various consumer target markets. These fashion brands include Jolt, My Michelle, Democracy, Briggs, and Recreation, which are sold through leading department stores and specialty stores across the United States.


    The Assistant Controller will be responsible for managing the period-end financial close, as well as for performing multiple accounting functions, and providing strategic support and analysis. The Assistant Controller will have an important role in managing the company’s financial statement audits, tax compliance, external reporting, and internal controls. The Assistant Controller will report to the VP Controller, with routine interaction with accounting, FP&A, and business partners throughout the company.



    • Lead and manage the period-end financial close process (fiscal month, quarter and year-end)
    • Oversee Corporate Accounting function; review various period-end account reconciliations and journal entries
    • Ensure integrity and accuracy of all accounting transactions under US GAAP, including both routine transactions as well as complex, non-recurring transactions
    • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to strengthen and maintain internal controls
    • Coordinate with external auditors to ensure annual financial statement audits are completed accurately and in a timely manner
    • Work with external tax professionals to prepare various tax filings, including income taxes, and assist in the preparation of the company’s provision for income taxes
    • Coordinate periodic bank field exams and inventory appraisals with outside third parties
    • Assist with Treasury and Accounts Payable functions as needed
    • Perform various activities to support the preparation of monthly, quarterly and annual bank reporting including financial statements and compliance certificates


    • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
    • CPA required
    • 10 years of experience in accounting roles, including at least 6 years audit experience in public accounting
    • Excellent Excel skills, including the ability to design and utilize effective spreadsheets
    • Strong communication skills and ability to articulate results and recommendations of analysis to a variety of audiences within the organization
    • Work effectively within the department and across departments as a pro-active team member.
    • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to meet ongoing deadlines
